Hot Caustic Bluing & Parkerizing
Grades of finishes:
Matte: Achieved by glass bead blasting and then bluing. This is the finish used on most guns for hunting and law enforcement as it gives the firearm an non-reflective finish.
Field: This is the finish that comes with most all factory bolt action rifles and semi-auto pistols and is the most commonly used.
Deluxe: Higher level of polishing gives the deep "black" finish you'll find on the more expensive factory bolt action rifles, custom rifles, lever action rifles, revolvers and engraved guns.
Master: This is for the most demanding customer who wants a show quality, true mirror finish. This can only be applied to firearms that are received in good overall condition.
Parkerize: A Manganese Phosphate finish that is a Dark Gray in color and can only be applied in a matte finish. This is the finish seen on military weapons, so used because of it's ability to "absorb and hold" lubricants and resist rust better than bluing. It must be noted that this color may vary with different metals, i.e., the barrel and receiver, slide and frame.
